Superstar Face and Body Paints Face Painting Tips
GENERAL INFORMATION
Superstar face paints first hit the USA market in 2018, but the team behind this great brand has been in the Body Art industry for decades! Their first time in the USA was through a private label brand made exclusively for a US distributor, but now they have come to the USA with their own brand name, one that has been available in Europe and other parts of the world for many years. Superstar face and body paints are designed in the Netherlands by a team of very experienced people specialized in the design of face and body art products. All raw ingredients and pigments are carefully chosen and sourced around the world to provide you with the best face painting products you can think of. Superstar has a range of regular colors that are bold, vibrant and opaque, a shimmery range of soft Pearl colors including dual tone colors that are unique and exclusive to the Superstar range, and a collection of cosmetic grade glitters including bio degradable and chunky glitters. To top it all of, Superstar offers a great collection of Face Painting Palettes.
Some colors you won't want to miss are Superstar Ziva Blue, Peacock Shimmer, Petrol Blue and Golden Green Shimmer. Each one of them is unique and will blow your mind!
PRO TIP: Due to changes in humidity and temperature the paint can contract and expand creating surface cracks. That is absolutely normal and it does not affect at all the performance of the product. All cracks will disappear as you add water and work with the product.
HOW TO ACTIVATE SUPERSTAR FACE PAINTS?
In order to activate Superstar face paints, use a damped face painting sponge or face painting brush. The first step is to get your sponge or brush slightly moisten, making sure to remove any excess water before activating the face paint to prevent the paint from getting too runny. Then, you can activate the paint by rubbing the face painting brush or sponge against the surface of the face paint cake, making sure to keep rubbing back and forward until the face paint has a creamy consistency. If you are using a face painting brush for line work you can also go for a more ink like consistency. If you have too much water on the cake keep rubbing the sponge or brush in order to work that water into the paint and get the right consistency, or remove the excess water from your cake with a sponge. You want to make sure that your brush or sponge are not dripping.
You can find a more in depth explanation on how to activate face paints in our blog.
HOW TO APPLY SUPERSTAR FACE PAINTING SOLID COLORS?
Once you have your brush or sponge fully loaded with paint is time to face paint. If you are using a face painting sponge make sure to apply the face paint using a patting motion rather than swiping your sponge. Patting gently and consistently gives you a much smoother and opaque base than swiping your sponge since swiping can give you a streaky look. We recommend to use face painting sponges when applying a base coat rather than a brush, as the sponge is faster and provides a more even look to your base. You can also use a kabuki style brush to apply an even looking base coat.
You can read more about activating face paints with sponges in our blog post: How to Use a Face Painting Sponge. And don't forget to check our blog post about creating a smooth base coat.
When working with brushes simply lay the face painting brush against the skin and move it in the direction you wish to go. Make sure to keep a steady firm hand to have good control over your face painting brush. Focus mostly on the destination point rather than the tip of the brush itself. You can read more about how to face paint with a brush in our blog post: How to Use Face Painting Brushes.
HOW TO WORK WITH SUPERSTAR GLITTERS?
Superstar cosmetic grade face painting glitters are a great addition to your face painting kit. You can apply them directly over wet face paint or pre mix them with Superstar Gel Base if you want to spread it over areas with no paint. Superstar chunky glitters come in several combinations specially designed to create sparkling effects that will make your designs stand out. Don't forget to check their collection of bio degradable chunky glitters if you are looking for a a glitter that will bio degrade when in contact with ocean water. You can read more about bio degradable glitters in our blog post: The Ultimate Guide to Bio Glitters.
HOW TO REMOVE SUPERSTAR FACE AND BODY PAINTS?
Superstar face and body paints can be removed easily with just soap and water. You can use a soft sponge or cloth to help you with the removal process; this is specially good when dealing with darker colors. Always start by coating the skin with a thin layer of gentle facial soap, we highly recommend the Lush Brush soap by the Art Factory. Once you have worked the soap into the face paint and loosened up all of the pigment, then proceed to rinse. You might need to repeat this process a few times in order to remove all of the face paint. Always make sure to be super gentle as excessive rubbing of your skin can cause irritation. Also, we suggest not to use scented baby wipes since the perfume can cause allergic reactions. If any stains are left on the skin, consider using face lotion or baby oil. You might need to let the lotion or baby oil set in for a few minutes before wiping it off. In the rare case in which a stain is still visible after this process, please wait for 24 hours before attempting to wash off the area again to prevent irritation of the skin. Normal sweating and oil production from your skin will aid in the removal process, as well as rubbing against your sheets while you sleep. Always wash your face paint before going to bed, but it is ok to wait until the next morning to remove extra stubborn stains since the sweating and oils created while you sleep will make that process easier the next morning.
Keep in mind that all face paints can stain since it depends mostly on your skin type. If you are concerned, always try a small patch of the color on the area to be painted and test for stains 30 minutes after. If the color does leave a stain, you might want to consider using a different color if that concerns you. Colors like dark green, dark blue and teal are usually more likely to stain in every brand. Superstar has worked very hard finding pigments that are less likely to leave stains, but there is always a possibility.
To remove the face paint off your face painting brushes and sponges, we recommend using a brush soap like Lush Brush soap by the Art Factory. These soaps are designed to remove oils and pigments off your tools and will do a much better job than regular hand soap. Once your tools have been washed off and thoroughly rinsed to remove all traces of soap, let them dry out completely before storing them.
HOW TO STORE SUPERSTAR FACE PAINTS?
Like with all cosmetic products, it is always best to keep Superstar face and body paints away from a direct light source and in a cool and dry environment. Excessive heat can make your face paints really soft, and excessive light can fade the colors on the outer layers of your cake. An excess of humidity can cause mold to grow and spoil your face paints. A very dry environment might lead to surface cracks developing on your paint.
Before putting your face paints away after you have been using them, make sure to wipe the top clean using a clean sponge (do not use baby wipes since they will leave a fuzzy layer on your cakes), let them dry out with the lids open and then proceed to put the lids back on and store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. You can use laptop cases to keep light away from your cakes. Never spray your cakes with makeup sanitizers as that can change the formula of the product. Your face paints already have preservatives that help prevent bacteria growth when used and stored as directed.
