What is this used for?

How do I use this correctly?

To use: please remember that face and body art stencils require some practice to learn how to use them properly, but once you learn how to use them you can get through your face painting line much faster!

Start with a clean stencil and make sure that the skin is nice and dry before you apply the stencil, otherwise the face paint might smudge under the stencil. Apply the Boomerang Stencil against the skin and hold it firmly along the edges.

Powders are nice because they won’t bleed under the stencil. They can smudge if applied too thickly and touched, so use them sparingly. If you rather work with water activated face paints, we suggest using a glycerin based paint like Superstar or Paradise, though all paints work if you practice. Add a drop or two of water onto your paint and work the paint into a creamy almost sticky consistency with a sponge. Test the paint on the surface of your hand to make sure it isn’t too wet, and then tap over the surface of the stencil. Always work lightly so that you don't push face paint under the stencil.

Using sponges with very small pores is best since they provide a more even coverage and they tend to hold less water. Some people also like to use kabuki style brushes with their stencils, just make sure the brush has a very thin load of paint and it is fairly dry.
You can use Boomerang stencils to create very simple designs by just stamping the design featured on the stencil onto bare skin or on top of a colorful base, or you can use them to enhance more intricate face painting designs and add textures or more detailed work to your creations.

To clean your face painting stencils: Rinse the stencil under a gentle stream of water and use a soft towel to carefully wipe both sides off. Move gently and use a patting motion to avoid bending any parts of the stencil. For tough stains, a bit of soap can help. After drying the stencils with a towel, put them away.

To store your stencils: All face and body art stencils are fragile tools that need careful handling to ensure that they last for years. Before storing your stencils, ensure that they are clean and dry. Many professional face painters use a snap ring to store their stencils and keep them in a part of their kit where they won’t be damaged. If they have parts that could get snagged on other stencils, I recommend storing them in a small case or use a photo or trading card album to keep them separated and easily accessible. You can also attach tiny pieces of Velcro to each stencil and hang them from a Velcro strip in your kit, or use the holes to hang them on a peg or pin board.

Tips: Try different tools to apply the paint to the stencil to see what you like best. Some people prefer finger daubers while others prefer small filberts or kabuki brushes. If you like to use sponges, remember that different textures and densities of the sponge will effect how the paint stipples on. Also make sure to wet the paint gradually, do not wet your tool or you will risk drippy outcomes when you press the sponge or brush into the skin.
